Swan Hill
Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards
The mission of the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards
is to promote excellence in Australian prints and drawings; present
an exhibition of contemporary Australian prints and drawings, and
continue to build a high quality collection for Swan Hill Regional
Art Gallery.
The Post 70s works
were selected for their relevance to trends within Australian Art
and the Victorian School Curriculum.
Works from the Naïve collection were selected on the basis of social
commentary and their relevance to environmental issues.
Naïve art is produced by artists who are generally
self taught. Naïve is an inadequate label used to categorise painters
whose work has a child-like charm and innocence. The paintings tend
to be highly decorative and narrative. They are generally regarded
as marginalised and on the fringe of what is perceived to be high
art; yet, the popular appeal of Naïve art results in it being widely
collected by artists, collectors and major galleries.
Within this web site, images of Post 70s and Naïve artworks are
also included under the heading Environmental Education. The environmental
section contains images, information and activities designed to
enhance student awareness and understanding of complex environmental
issues. The images in the Environmental Education component of the
site are duplicated within this collection of artworks from the
permanent collection.
