Scanning Memories
Nathalie Hartog-Gautier
20 August to 27 September

image: Nathalie Hartog-Gautier, Encounter, digital print.
Nathalie Hartog-Gautier is constantly searching through archives, image banks, memories and landscapes looking for new ways to 'see' as an artist.
This process of scanning allows her to uncover unique connections between seemingly disparate elements that are in turn unified by her own major themes and preoccupations. It is through this process of knowing, of comparing her vision with that of others, that she attempts to depict nature in a new light – as if seen for the first time. Dr Anna Lawrenson.

Bones of contention is a compelling representation of what is often referred to as our 'hidden history'. In this epic work Aboriginal artist, Eddie 'Kookaburra' Kneebone tells the story of colonial settlement and its impact on the indigenous clans of the North East and Upper Murray region of Victoria. Trannscending regions, the work remains representative of similar encounters between indigenous and non-indigenous communities during this period across Australia.
The story stretches across 33 individual canvasses accompanied by written descriptions and a DVD recording of the story as told by Eddie.
