Students recently participated in workshops with Artist Ron Eden and Musician Thomas Fitzgerald as part of the Murray Darling Palimpsest Exhibition Dis Place This Place. The following links are for the three websites mentioned in the workshops. The links will open in a new web page.

We encourage you to include a program at the Gallery in your student’s visit to Swan Hill. The Gallery hosts a program of changing exhibitions of contemporary art or exhibitions that relate to the region in some way. The permanent collection features works of art created post 1970s including naïve art and works on paper.

CURRICULUM INFORMATION
The following information explains how the images presented within the ‘Permanent Collection’ component of this site may be linked to the following Key Learning Areas of the Victorian Curriculum Standard Framework: (also applicable to the Australian National Curriculum)

  • Arts
  • English
Studies of Society and Environment, specifically Australian History, Australian Communities and Environmental Education.

ART
The following images are starting points for written responses to artwork. Analysis of artworks may include a description of the following:

  • The artist’s use of line and tone
  • The placement of shapes or forms
  • The use of colour
  • The application of media
  • Analysis may also include reference to the artist’s intent and comparisons with other artworks. 
The images selected are relevant to ‘Responding to the Arts’ of the substrand Visual arts of the Key Learning Area Arts, of the Victorian Curriculum Standards Framework (levels 3-6).

ENGLISH
The images may serve as starting points for the writing of imaginative stories, poetry or description. As starting points they are relevant to the substrand ‘Writing’ of the Key Learning Area English, of the Victorian Curriculum Standard Framework (levels 2 – 5)

VCE English
The History file of this web site contains information, which may assist VCE English students with their Communications CAT (common assessment task). 

Studies of Society and Environment
Images of Naïve artworks depicting Australia communities have been included as visual stimulus. The artworks relate to the substrands ‘History’ and ‘Society and environment’ of the Key Learning Area Studies of Society and Environment. Teachers of SOSE should also refer to the Environmental Education page.

Studies of Australian History are also assisted by excursions to Museums, Galleries, places of historic significance (information obtainable from the Nation Trust) or Historic Theme Parks.
