CARPENTER / HANDYMAN

PIONEER SETTLEMENT

The Pioneer Settlement is seeking an enthusiastic person to be responsible for building  construction, maintenance and repairs within the Pioneer Settlement, and to work with the Curatorial team on the restoration and maintenance of collection objects as required.

The successful applicant will be required to work as an integral part of the Settlement's maintenance team.  While it is anticipated that the core duties will revolve around carpentry related activities, the Carpenter / Handyman would also be expected to attend to other maintenance functions. These include assisting with and providing advice on the Museum building and structural maintenance program, providing advice on the development of a Master Plan for the Settlement's buildings along with the maintenance of tools and equipment associated with the carpenter's workshop.

The successful applicant will have qualifications along with extensive experience in the building/carpentry trade and a sound understanding of building techniques and buildings from the period 1830-1930.  Demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety and the ability to relate to and provide a high level of customer service to a wide variety of clientele, including school children, are also essential to the position. 

Salary: Attracting approximately $40,000 per annum, this is a full time permanent position within Council.
