Media Release

Tuesday, March 18 2008

Swan Hill Rural City Council will soon be launching a home composting campaign throughout the region.

The launch of the campaign, named Green Your Garden, Let’s Get Composting! is expected to take place during National Composting Week (May 4 -11), and will include a demonstration at the Swan Hill Murray Downs Field Days on May 6 and 7.

During the campaign, residents will have the opportunity to purchase either a worm farm or compost bin from Council’s office at Splatt Street at a subsided rate.

Each unit will come with a “how to” instruction manual as well as other resources and materials which will be made available to the wider community.

Swan Hill Rural City Councillor and Deputy Mayor David Quayle said the Green Your Garden, Let’s Get Composting! campaign demonstrates how Council is leading the way in effective waste management.

“The campaign also encourages a behavioural change among our residents when it comes to reducing waste disposal to the landfill,” Mr Quayle said.

“One of the objectives of the Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Waste Management Strategy is to meet community needs and expectations while reducing Council’s ecological footprint.”
