Works to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Murray Valley Highway, Nyah Road, Karinie Street and Curlewis Street are expected to get underway this Thursday, 15 October.

Media Release

Works to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Murray Valley Highway, Nyah Road, Karinie Street and Curlewis Street are expected to get underway this Thursday, 15 October.

Initial works to the intersection will include the widening of the slip lane travelling from north of Swan Hill to Curlewis Street, while works to the intersection of Saleyards Road and Murray Valley Highway have already been completed, to enable traffic in both directions access to Saleyards Road.

Swan Hill Rural City Council's Director Infrastructure David Leahy said Global Contracting Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract by VicRoads, who were managing the delivery of the project.

“There is also a fairly short timeframe for this construction, which is expected to be complete by Christmas this year, weather permitting,” Mr Leahy said.

While the Murray Valley Highway and Curlewis Street will remain open to traffic throughout the works, traffic management will be in place, including speed restrictions.

Access to Karinie Street and Nyah Road through the intersection will also be closed until completion of the works, with access to the industrial area via Saleyards Road from the north and Murlong Street from the south.

Palm trees currently residing in the intersection will be relocated within Swan Hill, while the flag poles will be returned to the vicinity of the intersection, such as the saleyards land or similar, once the project is complete.

Mr Leahy reminded the community to ensure they adhered to all traffic management and speed restrictions in place throughout the completion of the project.

“There may also be some delays to traffic while these works are being undertaken; however the contractors are endeavouring to keep these delays to a minimum,” he said.

“We do apologise for any inconvenience while these works take place and we ask our community to please remain patient while this project is under completion.”

Once works on the $1.3m project are complete, the roundabout will enable the intersection to cater for B-double truck combinations and above.

The Karinie Street roundabout construction has been made possible due to funding through the Federal Government's Auslink program and the State Government's Better Roads Regional Victoria Development program.
