Regional landholders and Landcare members are invited to attend a community meeting hosted by Swan Hill Rural City Council regarding the Department of Primary Industries' (DPI) proposed target zones to control rabbits throughout the Mallee region.

Swan Hill Rural City Council's Environment Manager Sue Mahon said the meeting would provide the opportunity to discuss the proposed DPI rabbit control zones in the Mallee.

“Identifying priority areas will ensure the maximum benefit is achieved from the DPI priority rabbit control program, and local knowledge is vital to the success of this program,” Ms Mahon said.

“We are asking our landholders and Landcare members to come along to the meeting and help us identify which areas require action so steps can then be taken to reduce the rabbit population.”

The community meeting will be held on Thursday, 8 October 2009 at 7pm at the Ultima Public Hall, Dillon Street, Ultima.

For more information regarding the meeting or to RSVP, please contact Sue Mahon at Council on 5036 2333.
