With less than two weeks to go until nominations close, Swan Hill Rural City Council's cultural programs is reminding residents to ensure they put forward names for the 2009 Cultural Achievement Awards.
The awards, to be presented in conjunction with the official launch of the Go North Arts Festival on Saturday, 24 October, acknowledge the work of local people within the municipality in the field of arts and culture.
The awards are open to individuals or groups and also recognise the contribution of young people to arts and culture with the Young Achievers (up to the age of 25 years) award category.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Cr Greg Cruickshank encouraged members of the community to put forward names for the awards.
“There are many people within our region who do outstanding work in the area of art and culture and the Cultural Achievement Awards is the opportunity to acknowledge these people and their valuable contribution,” he said.
“On behalf of Council, I encourage our community members to put forward names for nomination for these awards.”
Last year's awards were presented to Miriam Williams for her contribution to arts and culture as a young person and to Mr Ron Field, who has been with the Swan Hill Theatre Group for nearly 25 years.
Information outlining the selection criteria for the Cultural Achievement Awards can be obtained from Ian Tully on 5036 2430.
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, 16 October 2009.
