Media Release

Swan Hill Rural City Council in conjunction with the Swan Hill and District Committee for the Ageing is inviting residents and community groups to take part in the 15th annual A Forest of Christmas Trees exhibition for local charity.

Participants are asked to decorate a Christmas tree, which will then be auctioned to raise money for a local organisation – the Swan Hill Division of St John Ambulance Australia (Vic).

President Margaret Schintler said the Christmas trees exhibition and auction was a great way for the local community to get involved.

“Not only is it great fun to decorate and create your own tree for Christmas, you are also giving something back to the community,” she said.

“It's great that we have a range of Christmas trees that we are able to auction every year, each with its own individual style.”

The Christmas trees will be exhibited from Monday, 30 November through to Friday, 4 December from 9.30am until 5.30pm (open until 7pm on the Wednesday) at the Swan Hill Town Hall.

If you are interested in creating a Christmas tree for charity, please contact Secretary Robyn Fry at Council on 5036 2333 or email rfry@swanhill.vic.gov.au by Friday, 2 November 2009.

Decorated Christmas trees need to be completed and delivered to the Council offices in Splatt Street by 4 December 2009.

The Christmas trees will be auctioned on Friday, 20 November at 6pm – all are welcome to attend.
