Media Release

Wednesday, 18 November 2009

Swan Hill Rural City Council is reminding residents to ensure they put forward their nominations for the 2009 Local Government Awards by Thursday, 26 November.

The awards, to be presented on Australia Day 2010 and which apply to the whole municipality, recognise the contribution of individuals and groups to the community.

The awards are in the following categories:

  •   Citizen of the Year

  •   Young Citizen of the Year

  •   Community Event of the Year

Swan Hill Rural City Mayor Cr Greg Cruickshank said anybody could nominate any person or event they considered worthy of the award.

“We have a number of community members within our region that contribute so much everyday that deserve to be recognised,” he said.

“There have also been a number of events this year that are also worthy of a nomination.

“This is a great opportunity to nominate a colleague, friend, committee member or an acquaintance and pay tribute to them by recognising their contributions to our community,” Cr Cruickshank added.

Residents can pick up a nomination form from the Council offices in Splatt Street, the Robinvale Resource Centre or can contact Robyn Fry, Special Events Support Officer on 5036 2361.

The traditional Australia Day breakfast in Swan Hill will take place from 6.30am at Riverside Park.

This year's Australia Day ambassador will be former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Christine Nixon APM.

Australia Day celebrations will also take place at Lake Boga, Ultima, Beverford, Nyah, Manangatang and Robinvale.
