The Swan Hill Regional Library Service is now able to supply Internet access to its mobile library customers, thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Department of Planning and Community Development through its 2008 Small Grants for Public Libraries program.

Council's Manager Cultural Development and Libraries Camille Cullinan said the funding allowed the mobile library to provide a higher level of customer service to the smaller communities in the region.

“This funding is just fantastic, it has enabled us to purchase two computers, a printer, wireless modem, install the equipment and do some slight modifications to the mobile library itself,” Ms Cullinan said.

“The Internet has become a very important part of people's lives and has not always been available to residents in smaller communities.

“People in all the towns the mobile library visits will now be able to access information on the Internet, access the Library Service's online catalogue and even send an email.”

The official launch of the rejuvenated mobile library will take place on Wednesday, 8 July at the mobile library stop on the corner of Best and Sutcliff Streets in Sea Lake at 10.30am.

The Swan Hill Regional Mobile Library service travels to 17 towns in the region on a fortnightly rotation and is in Robinvale every Thursday.

Residents can obtain a mobile library timetable from the Swan Hill Regional Library in Campbell Street or by calling the library on 5036 2480.
