The free seniors' transport pilot project will commence on Friday, 3 July, enabling senior residents of Piangil, Wood Wood, Nyah, Nyah West, Vinifera and Woorinen South to travel free by bus into Swan Hill every second Friday until 23 October this year.

Swan Hill Rural City Council's Manager of Aged and Disability Services Marg Free said the program would provide a big benefit for senior residents living in Swan Hill's outlying communities.

“Quite often older people can become isolated in the smaller towns if they don't have a car or a means of transport and this bus service to and from Swan Hill gives our older residents an opportunity to get out and about,” Ms Free said.

“This free transport service will provide older residents from these outlying towns the opportunity to come into Swan Hill for medical or dental appointments, specialised shopping not available in their immediate community or create an opportunity for social activities with family and friends.

“Providing you have ensured you've booked your seat on the bus, the service will pick you up at your home and deliver you safely back in the afternoon.”

Brochures regarding the free transport pilot program have been distributed to residents in the communities.

“We really encourage our residents aged over 60 years to utilise this bus service, it's going to be a fantastic service for our senior community.”

For more information regarding the transport pilot project or to make a booking, contact Council's Social Support Leader Carolyn Harrop on 5036 4700.
