| McCrae Street Stage 2 redevelopment |
Media Release
Wednesday, 9 September 2009
Major works for the second stage of the McCrae Street redevelopment continue to remain on schedule with sealing works expected to take place from next Tuesday, 15 September through to Friday, 18 September.
Swan Hill Rural City Council and Whitfield Excavations wish to advise the community that due to these sealing works, temporary road closures will be in place; however a strict timeline has been set for the works to keep disturbance to the public to a minimum:
McCrae Street (from Campbell to Beveridge Street): Closed from 7am Tuesday, 14 September and will reopen on Saturday, 19 September.
Campbell Street-McCrae Street roundabout: Will be closed from 7am to 11am on Wednesday, 16 September and from 7am to 3pm on Thursday, 17 September.
McCrae Street Laneway: Will be closed from 7am to 3pm on Tuesday, 15 September and from 7am to 5pm on Thursday, 17 September. On Wednesday, 16 September and Friday, 18 September the laneway will be open to freight only.
Campbell Street (north bound): closed on Wednesday, 16 and Thursday, 17 September – traffic will be diverted to Rutherford Street.
Campbell Street will remain open to traffic travelling south bound, while full pedestrian access will also be available during the works.
Whitfield Excavations Dale Whitfield said pedestrian and traffic management would be maintained during the works and stated the works were fully dependent on weather conditions.
“We would also like to thank our local residents, businesses and visitors to our town for their patience while these works take place,” he said.
Swan Hill Rural City Council's Director of Infrastructure David Leahy reminded road users to ensure they adhered to all traffic management in place during the works.
“In terms of the major works for this project, the end is in sight and during these final weeks of works, we do ask our community to please obey all traffic restrictions in place at the works site,” he said.
“Council would also like to take this opportunity to thank the public and our businesses for their patience throughout the works process,” he said.
Following the completion of the major construction work, minor beautification and landscaping works will commence, with the project due for full completion by mid December 2009.
The McCrae Street Stage 2 redevelopment has been made possible through funding from the State Government's Regional Development Victoria under the Small Towns Development Fund.
