This Saturday will see volunteers of the Swan Hill region step into the limelight when the 2009 Volunteer Recognition Awards take place at the Swan Hill Town Hall.
A night of entertainment has been planned for the event including the Swan Hill Theatre Group, Double A Jazz Combo, Robinvale Polynesian Dancers, Richardson's Dance Studio, Robinvale Secondary College Brass Band, Tongan Christian Fellowship Youth Choir as well as individual solo artists.
Council's Volunteer Support Officer Jenny Astall said the evening would enable the community to reflect on the work carried out by volunteers throughout the Swan Hill region every day.
“It is not often we get to say thank you to our volunteers and to put the spotlight on what they do for our community,” she said.
“That's what the Volunteer Recognition Awards are all about – recognising our volunteers and the crucial role they carry out in our everyday lives.”
As part of the presentation on the night, regional artists will present painted statues, representing different community organisations throughout the region and the Hall of Fame theme of the awards.
There are seven separate award categories: Female Volunteer 2009, Male Volunteer 2009, Rural Volunteer 2009 (excluding Swan Hill), Youth 2009 – up to age 25 (individual or group award), Community Organisation 2009, Rural Community Organisation 2009 (excluding Swan Hill) and Community Event 2009.
