Swan Hill Rural City Council is reminding Lake Boga residents to ensure they recycle their green waste at the Swan Hill landfill rather than risk having to pay up to a $1000 fine for illegal dumping.
According to Council's Environment Manager Sue Mahon, the dumping of green waste around the Lake Boga foreshore has been an ongoing issue, which is not only unsightly, but puts the environment at risk.
“Unfortunately the illegal dumping of green waste has contributed to the spread of invasive weeds around the foreshore area,” Ms Mahon said.
“Council is currently working with the residents of the area to try and ensure that an end is put to this practice and we are reminding residents to please recycle their green waste at the Swan Hill landfill.
“By recycling green waste, we can ensure that we all, including our future generations, enjoy a clean and rubbish-free environment,” Ms Mahon added.
“Residents are also able to access free mulch for their gardens at the landfill.”
Information flyers regarding the illegal dumping of green waste around the Lake Boga foreshore were sent out to residents in the area earlier this month.
Residents who witness any illegal dumping of green waste or rubbish can contact the EPA Report Litter hotline on 1800 35 25 55 or Swan Hill Rural City Council on 5036 2333.
