Community members throughout the Swan Hill region are invited to learn the art of composting at a free information workshop on Wednesday, 9 September.
To be held by the Sustainable Living in the Mallee (SLiM) group, the evening is a chance to learn about the wonders of compost and its environmental benefits.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Environment Manager Sue Mahon said attendees would gain a lot from the workshop.
“This is a great chance to not only learn about the benefits of compost, but also how you can produce valuable compost,” Ms Mahon said.
“Not only can compost improve your garden and reduce water use, it can also reduce your household's contribution to landfill by up to 50%.
“Furthermore, compost is a great way to grow highly nutritious and chemical free food for your family, adding some compost to your veggie patch for example, works wonders,” she added.
“Whether you're looking for information for composting at home or on the farm this free workshop is one not to be missed.”
Guest speakers at the workshop will include commercial compost producer Ross O'Halloran from Waterhold and home-composting guru Paul Ward.
The free composting workshop will be held on Wednesday, 9 September from 7pm until 9pm at the Swan Hill Town Hall Café.
Supper will be provided and all are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by Monday, 7 September for catering purposes.
