Patrons and visitors to the Swan Hill Regional Library are invited to meet the person behind the story when it hosts two prominent authors this Wednesday and early next month.
On Wednesday, the library will play host to Noel Braun, who not only taught at Kooloonong and lived in the Swan Hill area during the 1950s, but using some of his experiences from this time, wrote his first novel Friend and Philosopher, about a 19-year-old man who takes up an appointment in a one-teacher town.
Following on from Noel's visit, Vietnam War veteran and author of The War within Don Tate, will visit the library for an author talk on the 6 October, where he will discuss the story behind his life including his childhood and his time in Vietnam.
Manager Cultural Development and Libraries Camille Cullinan said the talks would be revealing, unique and above all, highly interesting.
“We are fortunate to be able to host both these authors at the library and are sure that those who come along to hear these authors will not be disappointed.
“Audiences will get the chance to hear from Noel Braun about his time in the Swan Hill region during the 1950s and how he drew on some of these experiences to write his first novel, while Don Tate's story will certainly make for interesting listening,” Ms Cullinan said.
“Don will discuss his novel The War within, which has been reviewed in many national publications, and also his background including his tough childhood, his experiences of Vietnam and his controversial quest to get his platoon officially recognised.”
The first author talk by Noel Braun will take place on Wednesday, 9 September at the Swan Hill Library from 6pm (for a 6.30pm start), while Don Tate's talk will be held on Tuesday, 6 October from 6pm to 8pm.
Both of the events are free and light refreshments will also be provided.
