The Swan Hill Regional Library's Summer Reading Club has been a great success again this year, with more than 100 children reading over 1400 books during the school holidays.
Around 50,000 children across Australia participated in a Summer Reading Club program, which was presented nationally under the “READ on the WILD SIDE!” theme this year.
The Summer Reading Club extended across the whole of summer to promote reading and reading-related activities to children aged five to 16 via their local libraries and a dedicated website.
“We were thrilled with the response to the Reading Club this year, not only with the amount of children who participated but also the sponsors who were keen to get behind such a worthwhile event,” Council's Manager Cultural Development and Libraries Camille Cullinan said.
“The sponsorship allowed us to offer exciting incentives for the children along the way, as well as a fantastic major prize draw.
“We would particularly like to thank the local businesses that have generously sponsored the program this year, including Elsteel, Retravision, Toyworld, MADEC, McDonalds Family Restaurant and KFC,” Mrs Cullinan said.
“It was great to see everyone coming on board to help promote this worthwhile program and even our local parliamentary members have contributed to the reading kits.”
