Welcome to the Performing Arts Program
A big thanks to all who turned out to see The Debutante Diaries last week. I'm sure you'll agree it was an hilarious show and that Kate McLennan is an incredibly talented performer. Kate also let me know that she's writing a new show to be premiered at the Melbourne Fringe Festival later this year and that the new show will be ready for touring in 2010. Watch this space to find out if she'll return to Swan Hill!
In the next few weeks we'll be releasing our Season 2 Performing Arts and Art Gallery brochure. You can expect one in your mail box or you can pick one up at one of our locations around town. We have a really diverse program in Season 2 kicking off with The Kursk on July 9. Described as “an inspiring true story of hope, courage and love”, The Kursk revolves around a Russian submarine that mysteriously vanished in August 2000. This compelling story and extraordinary play reveals the true story behind this submarine, of which the wreckage was eventually discovered on the bottom of the ocean with 23 survivors trapped inside.
HIT Productions will follow up on the success of Menopause The Musical with their next smash hit, Wild World: The Cat Stevens Story in August. Get a table of ten together and join in as Paul Dillon takes us through all Cat's classics like “Moonshadow”, “Father and Son” and, of course, “Wild World”. Also in August is the regional tour of the Melbourne Writers' Festival. Perfect for students aged between ten and fourteen, special guests will include Looking for Alibrandi author Melina Marchetta, author of Black Juice Margo Lanagan, author of Boys of Blood and Bone David Metzenthen and Tyger Tyger author Michael Hyde. And for the really little kids, don't miss out on Little Big Shots – International Film Festival for Kids at the Swan Hill Town Hall in September! The festival will showcase the best in filmmaking for children both nationally and internationally with scheduled films ideal for children aged between three and seven.
In addition to these great shows we have Tenterfield Saddler- a morning show celebrating the life and times of Peter Allen in both Robinvale and Swan Hill; The Melbourne Chamber Orchestra at the Harrison Theatre and a Christmas sing along show in Kerang. So the next few months are definitely going to be busy!
All bookings can be made through the Swan Hill Region Information Centre on 03 5036 2444 except for Tenterfield Saddler which can be booked by calling 03 5036 4700. And if you have any feedback for us or any ideas of something you'd like to see feel free to drop us a line at performingarts@swanhill.vic.gov.au – after all, the program is here for you so we want to make sure that we deliver what you want to see!
