One of Swan Hill's most notable attractions, the Pioneer Settlement offers a full day's entertainment for the whole family. Established in 1963, the Pioneer Settlement allows visitors to experience life in the Mallee for our early settlers from the early 1800s to the 1930s. Visitors enter into a typical 1920s Mallee street complete with tearooms, lolly shop, music store and drapery. Activities include having a poster printed at the Echo Printers Shop; dressing up in old fashion costume at the Photography Parlour; and watching the blacksmith make horseshoes. You can chose to wander the site on foot or enjoy a relaxing drive around in our complimentary horse and carriage or vintage car rides.
Murray river cruises aboard the PS Pyap and an evening Sound & Light show run daily.
The Pioneer Settlement is growing and moving into a new phase of development, bigger, brighter and better; and the first concept plans are out. They will provide better protection for the larger objects currently in the open; better story telling in the whole Settlement and a new Mallee Interpretive Centre with dedicated galleries to introduce our visitors to the Mallee, and the Pioneer Settlement. The Pioneer Settlement is located on Monash Drive, Swan Hill and is open from 9:30am – 4:30pm everyday (except Christmas and Boxing Day).
