Respite services support the caring relationship by providing the carers of frail older people and people of any age with a disability, with a break from their carer responsibilities.
Respite also provides an opportunity for the person being cared for to have a break, or an outing without their usual carer.
Respite may be provided in the form of planned regular respite, emergency respite, crisis respite, occasional respite and overnight respite
Respite can be provided in a client's home or in the community
Eligibility
To determine whether a person is eligible, a variety of questions are asked relating to individuals circumstances, including health.
People wishing to use the service, their family or friends may apply. Referrals are also received from other services such as District Nursing. It is not necessary to have a medical referral.
Comprehensive Assessments are conducted by appropriately trained staff, which is sensitive to the needs of persons requiring assistance to determine a person's needs and eligible.
When you request assistance an appointment will be made for an Assessment Officer to visit you in your home. They will provide information, to assist you in making a choice from the options available. In some instances different people involved in your care may be consulted to clarify needs and/or health services.
Fees
This program is flexible in order to meet the varying financial needs and requirements of the client.
The Assessment Officer will discuss the cost with you, during the assessment.
