The invasion of pest plants is an ongoing problem in the Swan Hill municipality, and considered a major project at Swan Hill Rural City Council.
To determine the scope of weed infestations, such a project requires extensive consultation with Government Agencies including the DPI, MCMA, NCCMA, Landcare Groups, Farmers, Community Development Committees and individual community members.
Regular media inserts identifying the 'weed of the week' have increased community awareness of problem weeds. Projects undertaken in weed control provide valuable data to help determine the impact of pest plants in the region. The results of this study is used in municipal and regional Pest Plant Management Strategies and Action plans.
