Swan Hill Rural City Council through funding from the Federal Government has undertaken the Strengthening Victoria's Food Bowl (SVF) project.  The aim of this project is to improve Council's preparation and planning for reduced water availability and changes in the climate.

This is a joint project with the Shire of Campaspe, Moira Shire and Mildura Rural City Council.

The project assessed the impact of changes in the climate and water availability. In the modelling all other factors were held constant to isolate and understand the effect of these two parameters. This information was then used to develop adaptation plans for each participating Council and the region.

Since the project began, the Murray Darling Basin Authority has released the “Guide to the proposed Murray Darling Basin Plan”.  Although the final Basin Plan is yet to be released, the Sustainable Diversion Limits (SDLs) figures used within the Guide are considered in the SVF report.  Upon release of the final SDLs the modelling will be updated as necessary to reflect any changes.

The Regional and Swan Hill reports are now available for the community to read and provide comment on.

Feedback will be received until the 15 December 2011. To access the reports click here.

For further information or to provide comments please e-mail council@swanhill.vic.gov.au or contact Sue Mahon at (03) 5036 2391.
