Health Department

Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Health Department provides a variety of health services and information to the public. The team, consisting of three Environmental Health Officers and 2 Administration Officers, are responsible for enforcing various pieces of legislation including the Health Act 1958, Food Act 1984, Environment Protection Act 1970 and many other related Acts.  The health team are located at the Splatt Street Offices in Swan Hill.

		Food Act Premises
		Food Act Premises The Environmental Health Officers are responsible for registering Food Premises, inspecting registered premises, conducting food sampling to assess health risks, investigating complaints about food and investigating food poisoning outbreaks.

		Health Act Premises
		Health Act Premises Environmental Health Officers inspect Health Act premises annually.  Premises that must be registered under the Health Act 1958 include, Beauty Salons, Hairdressers, Skin Penetration such as ear piercing, body piercing and tattooing.

		Immunisations
		Swan Hill Rural City Council provides immunisations to the public by providing a morning and an evening session each month.  Vaccines that are available free of charge are on the National Immunisation Program Schedule found at www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation

		Nuisance Complaints
		Nuisance Complaints Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Health Department is responsible for investigating various complaints from the community relating to nuisances. Council’s Health Department is obligated to investigate nuisances that occur within their

		Tobacco Reforms
		The Health Department are responsible for administering the Tobacco Act 1987 in combination with the Department of Human Services (DHS).  Regular inspections are conducted on tobacco retailers, restaurants and cafes, licensed premises and gaming venues.

		Infectious Disease
