If you are not connected to the sewer you will require a wastewater treatment system to dispose of your wastewater.  Wastewater Disposal Systems treat sewage and greywater in your backyard.  These systems, which are installed in the ground, use bacteria to treat solids, grease and fats which come from the toilet, bathroom, kitchen and laundry.

Your Wastewater Disposal Systems are not designed to purify sewage.  They reduce the volume of solids and prepare sewage for disposal.

If you are installing or making any alterations to a septic tank system you must first apply to Council for a permit to install.

For more information view the document below or contact the Council's Public Health Services on 03 5036 2591.
