Funding available for major local events

Major events in the Swan Hill municipality can now apply for funding from Swan Hill Rural City Council.

Event and conference organisers are being encouraged to apply for funding through Council’s Major Events Support Scheme.

Grants of up to $3000 are available for locally-held events that produce significant economic benefits for the municipality.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Les McPhee said as much as $20,000 was given to events through the scheme each year.

“This scheme is all about providing support to new and emerging events, especially those that have the potential to become major annual events,” Cr McPhee said.

“To be successful in this grants scheme, organisers must demonstrate that their event or conference will bring considerable economic benefits to the Swan Hill municipality,” he said.

“This might be through visitors staying overnight in paid accommodation and possibly spending money on things like meals and petrol.

“Dozens of events have been supported in the past, including various fire brigade championships, the Swan Hill Junior Basketball Classic, Lake Boga Easter Regatta, Swan Hill Region Food and Wine Festival, and the Mallee Almond Blossom Festival.”
