Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards

Congratulations to the winners of the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery’s National Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards held on Saturday. Bruno Leti won the award for Print while Slavica Zivkovic won the award for Drawing.

The event also saw the launch of Print That 2! now showing in the Access Gallery, which highlights the impressive artistic talents of secondary students across the region. Make sure you view both exhibitions before they close on the 10 July.

Census Field Officers recruitment

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for Field Officers in the lead up to and after the Census on the 9 August, including about 25 Field Officers in the Swan Hill municipality.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the local community and help shape the future of Australia. To qualify, you need to be comfortable using a computer, tablet or mobile device and have the ability to work from home. Visit www.abs.gov.au to find out more.

Speaking of the Census, I encourage everyone to take part in Census night on 9 August. Having accurate population statistics is vital to our municipality for population-based funding for hospitals, Police, emergency services and Council.
Various studies have shown that Robinvale has been undercounted for the past two Census periods, reducing funding for much-needed services to residents. For Council services alone, for every 1000 residents undercounted in our municipality equates to a loss of around $110,000 in Grants Commission funding for our local government area.

Million Paws Walk

It was great to take part in the RSPCA Million Paws Walk last Sunday, which saw more than 100 people participate, including myself and our family’s dog Stuart. Although Stuart missed out on the Smallest Dog award (and had to be carried for the final leg of the walk), he had a great time – as did everyone else on the walk (humans and dogs alike).

I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Million Paws Walk, as well as the organisers of this great event. The money raised goes towards helping the RSPCA care for rescue animals from across the state.

Draft budget 2016/17 feedback

I’d like to thank community members who attended draft budget information sessions in Swan Hill and Robinvale. If you weren’t able to attend an information session, you can still provide written feedback by Monday, 6 June via Council’s Have Your Say page at www.swanhill.vic.gov.au/yoursay
