Robinvale residents thinking about standing for Council elections this October are encouraged to attend an upcoming information session on Monday, 18 July.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Les McPhee and CEO John McLinden will present at the session, talking about their experiences in local government and the different aspects of representing the community as a Councillor.
Council Chief Executive Officer John McLinden said prospective candidates attending the session would be able to find out what was involved before nominating.
“Deciding to stand for Council is a big decision,” Mr McLinden said.
“This information night will help prospective candidates learn more about being a Councillor, what the role entails and what responsibilities they might take on as part of that role.”
The session will be held at the Robinvale Golf Club at 6pm on Monday, 18 July, with finger food served on the night.
A dedicated website – www.standforcouncil.com.au – has also been launched through the Municipal Association of Victoria, where candidates can check their eligibility to stand for Council and find more about the day-to-day activities of a Councillor.
The election will be conducted via post between 6 October and 21 October, with results declared by Friday, 4 November.
Candidates will be able to nominate between Thursday, 15 September and Tuesday, 20 September (12 noon).
