A message from the Mayor

Congratulations Robinvale

I want to start by congratulating the Robinvale community on its work to produce the draft Robinvale Community Plan 2031.

This plan has gone above and beyond the norm for Community Planning, by setting a vision for the next 15 years of progress in Robinvale.

It is testament to the hundreds of people who have contributed to the plan, and to the plan’s management group.

Looking at the draft plan, I was especially pleased to see such a wide variety of projects. The projects aim to tackle big issues like affordable housing, through to local priorities like public transport, utilising empty shops, and increasing entertainment options. There is also a strong focus on the built environment – things like lighting, residential parks and shade.

The plan is on the agenda for Council’s 30 August meeting in Robinvale, and I look forward to hearing more about it then.

I also look forward to seeing how the local management group progresses the plan, and encourage community members to take any chance they can to get involved in the plan and its projects in the future.

Council meeting now on 30 August

As mentioned, the Council meeting will now be held on 30 August at 2pm, at the Robinvale Resource Centre.

The meeting was due to be held last week, but was postponed. Postponing a Council meeting has never happened in my time on Council, but was necessary this time due to a number of Councillors being absent for work and personal reasons.

We hope you can make it along to next week’s meeting. You can get a copy of the agenda at Council’s website to see the sorts of things we will discuss at the meeting.

So much action at Chisholm

There is so much happening at Chisholm Reserve at the moment – both on the racing front and in planning and management.

Council is looking for people to fill executive roles on the new Chisholm Reserve Motorsports Committee. The committee will be essential in providing a co-ordinated approach to the reserve’s future development.

If you have skills in areas like finance, marketing, legal, strategy and risk, and would like to get involved, visit Council’s website for details and a nomination form. Applications close this Monday.

On the racing front, the Swan Hill Drag Club will host its first event on October 8 and 9. It will be the first chance many local people get to see drag racing and I encourage locals to get along to the event.

Then on the Melbourne Cup long weekend, The Guardian Swan Hill Festival of Motorsport will be held. All motorsport clubs in Swan Hill will host races and events, giving you the chance to see them all in one hit. We’re aiming to make it an annual festival, helping cement Swan Hill as the motorsport mecca of north west Victoria

Find out more about these events at the Swan Hill Dragway and Swan Hill Festival of Motorsport Facebook pages.

Blue Ribbon Ball on this October

Finally I encourage you to support our local hospital by coming along to the Swan Hill Blue Ribbon Foundation Black Tie Gala on 22 October. This fundraiser is always a great night with entertainment and an auction. All money raised will go to Swan Hill District Health emergency department. Tickets are $60 and available from the Swan Hill District Health reception.
