Swan Hill Rural City Council is calling on residents to register their backyard swimming pools and spas before 1 June 2020.
New State Government laws mean that private pool and spa owners must register with Council.
Every four years pool and spa owners must also have a registered building surveyor or inspector certify that their safety barrier is compliant, and undertake any repairs as directed.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Director Development and Planning Heather Green said the laws were about improving pool safety.
“The State Government has introduced these new laws to ensure safety around pools, especially for children. The new rules will ensure fencing is checked every four years and if it is not compliant, that it is repaired and made safe,” she said.
“The rollout of these new laws will take time, and registering is the first step in the process. Once we have pools registered, we can start to advise owners about the timing and practicalities of having their pools inspected.”
Ms Green said all local private pool and spa owners must register with Council prior to 1 June 2020.
