Swan Hill Rural City Council will employ up to 54 new staff for up to six months as part of the State Government’s Working for Victoria initiative.
The $500 million Working for Victoria initiative is designed to support communities and contribute to the state’s ability to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by helping jobseekers find work and employers find those workers.
The initiative matches people who have lost their jobs due to the economic impacts of the pandemic with local councils.
Chief Executive Officer, John McLinden said Swan Hill Rural City Council is one of 28 councils participating in the program.
“We have funding to place 54 staff in various roles across the organisation including outdoor workers, cleaners, administration support and community services staff.
“This is an exciting and worthwhile initiative and we are pleased to be getting involved.
Mr McLinden said the 54 jobs being provided at Council will be for six months until February 2021.
“We have been given the opportunity to potentially have a positive impact on 54 families.
“We will be working quickly to prepare to recruit and induct the temporary staff and ensure they have a positive experience and at the same time help Council to support the community during this difficult time”.
