1.4 million boosts Council recovery efforts

The Australian Government has committed over 1.4 million dollars in funding for local roads and community infrastructure across the Swan Hill municipality.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program supports councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Bill Moar said Council was delighted to be receiving funds to give the municipality a much-needed boost.

“Funding will pave the way for a number of exciting projects right across our municipality.

“Council will be undertaking seventeen separate projects, ranging from a new toilet block at George Lay Park in Swan Hill to new netball change rooms at Riverside Park in Robinvale –they are many and varied.

“There’s something in this funding for everyone,” Cr Moar said.

Federal Member for Mallee, Anne Webster, said the Local Roads and Community infrastructure program was key to supporting local jobs and businesses.

“This program is aimed at supporting local projects and creating local jobs. I am excited to see the programs that Swan Hill council are delivering throughout the council area and employing locals.

“Every single job we can support makes a huge difference as we navigate our way out of the Coronavirus pandemic. This funding compliments the $1.15 million that Swan Hill council received under the Building Better Regions Fund and the additional $1.4 million of Roads to Recovery Australian Government funding,” Ms Webster said.

Cr Moar said where possible Council would use local businesses and workforces to deliver projects.

“We are really excited about the potential these projects have to flow money back into our local communities,” Cr Moar said.

Projects will be completed by December 2021.
