New look for local Waste Management

Swan Hill Rural City Council has appointed new contractors for its Waste Management services.

Cleanaway will commence all Council waste, recycling, green waste collection and recycling processing services throughout our municipality from Thursday, 1 October.

Director Infrastructure Svetla Petkova said the current contract with Veolia Environmental Services will conclude on Wednesday, 30 September, and Council thanks them for the services they have provided to our communities.

“Kerbside collection will remain the same with weekly waste collection and fortnightly recycling and green waste collection,” she added.

Ms Petkova said Council Landfill services will be managed by the new contractor Whitfield Excavations, commencing from Thursday, 1 October 2020.

Ms Petkova said with changes to servicing it was a good time to encourage residents to think about what goes into their bins.

“A number of people are still not aware that if they put the wrong things into their recycling bin, items that would normally be recycled, can end up in landfill.

“Contamination is still a problem, our new contractors will be on the lookout,” she added.

Ms Petkova said to ensure a smooth transition Council was asking residents to put their bins out the night before, as the timing of bin collections may change even though the days will remain the same.
