Robinvale Learning and Community Hub – Official Naming

After a community consultation process seeking names for the new Robinvale Library Building the name Robinvale Learning and Community Hub has officially been voted in and approved.

The community were asked to submit their suggestions online or by filling in a form earlier this year. Suggestions were then assessed by a selection panel, against the suggestion criteria, and two names were selected and presented to the community to vote for their preference. A total of 36 votes were received in favour of the chosen name, compared with 10 votes for the alternative name, Gathering Place.

The name was then officially submitted to and approved by Geographic Names Victoria.

Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan, said that there were some excellent suggestions put forward.

“Several names suggested by the community were chosen to name specific areas inside the library. Including the two meeting rooms which are now known as The Irving Room and The Merlin Room.”

“Shirley Irving and Mary Merlin were both teachers who dedicated a lot of their time to teaching children a love of literature and learning to read- so we just love that we can honour all of their hard work with this gesture of appreciation” she said.

“Another suggestion we received was the ‘Book Nook’ which we have given to the tiered seating area in the children’s space – and the kids just love it!”

Ms Cullinan thanked everyone for their input and for attending the official community opening.
