Councillor resignation
Last Friday, we received an official resignation from Councillor Jade Benham following her State election victory, claiming the seat of Mildura.
Ms Benham was elected to Council in 2019, following a bi-election and reelected in 2020.
I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of my fellow Councillors, to thank Jade for her contribution. During her time as Councillor, Deputy Mayor and more recently Mayor Jade maintained a real passion for our municipality, particularly focused on future planning for our region, not just in terms of regional development, but in development of infrastructure and housing. Jade has made a significant contribution to our Councillor team, her bright, bubbly and outspoken nature will be sincerely missed around our Councillor chamber.
We wish Jade all the very best in her new role, representing the people of the Mildura electorate.
Jade’s resignation creates a Councillor vacancy and we are currently working with the Victorian Electoral Commission to achieve an outcome. At this stage it is looking like we will not have a result from an electoral countback until mid-January.
Celebrating our volunteers
Last week we celebrated International Volunteers Day on Monday, 5 December.
Council took the opportunity to say thank you to our volunteers, for the important work they do broadly across our organisation. A number of our services use volunteers to perform a wide variety of tasks, whether it be helping out at the library, delivering meals on wheels, or volunteering at Pioneer Settlement – we are grateful to each and every volunteer, for their generosity and dedication to our organisation.
We thank you and we appreciate you.
Swan Hill Australia Day committee
On Monday, 5 December a Civic Reception was held for members of the Swan Hill Australia Breakfast Committee and volunteers.
Committee members and club representatives were presented with certificates of appreciation – a great celebration, for a great group of community members.
The committee and some individuals have been involved in organising this event for over 40 years – what an immense effort!
On behalf of my fellow Councillors, I thank this committee for their commitment for over 40 years.

Council officers are currently busy finalising the Tower Hill stage 14 release.
A ballot will be coming in early 2023. Any interested community members can now sign up to the Tower Hill mailing list to be the first to hear about this upcoming release.
