Women Leading Locally

In my last column I urged anyone who had contemplated the idea of standing for Councillor, to get involved. An opportunity has now available for local women to gain valuable training and mentoring, to boost their chances of becoming elected.

The Women Leading Locally program aims to increase the representation of women councillors and mayors, in Victoria.

They support 125 women – from 32 target municipalities (yes, Swan Hill is one of the 32) through two Community Leadership and Local Governance fellowships. The program welcomes the involvement of women from all ages and backgrounds – young women, first nations women, women who live with disability, women from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and LGBTQI+ women.

The key requirement, as with being a councillor, is that you have a passion for your local community, like we do.

Applications close on Friday, 14 April – you can find out more by clicking here .

Community consultation for two new buildings

Council has recently presented the community with two community consultation outcomes reports for the Swan Hill Tourism and Cultural hub and the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery redevelopment.

We received some really great feedback to pass onto to architects during face-to-face focus group sessions and via online feedback from our Let’s Talk platform – I look forward to seeking how they incorporate the ideas into the designs.

To ensure that we have captured absolutely everything, we are offering residents the chance to provide additional feedback on these reports.

Consultation is now open online on our Let’s Talk platform and we will be again, hosting face to face sessions on Thursday, 23 March – I encourage anyone with an interest in either of these building projects to come along.

Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery redevelopment:

  • Thursday, 23 March from 9.30am to 10.30am at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery
  • Thursday, 23 March from 5pm to 6pm at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery

Swan Hill Tourism and Cultural hub:

  • Thursday, 23 March from 11am to 12pm at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery
  • Thursday, 23 March from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery

Sky news – Our Town

This Sunday, 19 March Sky News and the Paul Murray Live team will feature Swan Hill, as part of their ‘Our Town’ series.

The series aims to support smaller towns, right across the country and provide an opportunity for great places to be put in the spotlight –  it is no surprise that they chose our great region!

Paul will also share stories about our town, highlight our renowned local produce, speak with locals and he will also highlight some of the fantastic places to explore.

The show will air live from Pioneer Settlement at 9pm – tune in to see some familiar faces, you might even catch a glimpse of me.

Coldie with a Councillor

Tonight residents are invited to join Cr King and I at the Swan Hill club from 4-6pm to talk about local issues that matter to you – we look forward to seeing you.
