Swan Hill Rural City Council
Council is delighted to have Swan Hill’s iconic Giant Murray Cod – Arnold – feature on a new release of collectible coins and post stamps.
Council’s Mayor Cr Les McPhee said this exciting opportunity to promote our iconic tourism attraction came about through a partnership between Australia Post and the Royal Australian Mint.
“The Royal Australian Mint partnered with Australia Post to celebrate the Aussie Big Things theme through 10 collectable coins and 5 stamps.
“Council submitted an expression of interest to include Arnold in this promotion, and we were delighted to have been selected as 1 of 10 collectible “Big Things”, Cr McPhee said.
Cr McPhee said Arnold has been greeting visitors to the region since 1991 and our community is extremely fond of him.
“This is a great honor for our region, as we believe Arnold is truly special, and we are excited to get the chance to showcase him to the world.
The ‘Big Things’ initiative is a wonderful opportunity to promote our town and tourism for our region on such a large scale – literally,” he said.
The coins and stamps launch today, Monday 4 September.
