Mayoral election
Our annual mayoral election is approaching next week, and will be held on Tuesday, 21 November.
I have been open with the community and Council regarding my intention to not re-stand for Mayor, at this time.
It has been a privilege and honor to be the Mayor for six terms and I extend my sincere thanks to our wonderful community, Council staff members and my fellow Councillors for the support shown to me during that time.
Over the past 12 months I have been delighted to see exciting things happening in our municipality including new Leisure Centre upgrades, a brand-new laser light show experience, community and event grant opportunities, spectacular light events, the launch of Mully’s Place at the Town Hall café bar, more land released at Tower Hill, an increased focus on housing availability, exciting new open spaces and infrastructure, government advocacy efforts and much, much more.
We are without a doubt a proactive and innovative Council.
It has been positive to see Council continue to strengthen our community engagement processes and ensure we work closely with our community, to create more opportunities for residents to get involved and stay informed.
It was clear to me, earlier this year, that we are moving in the right direction, following the extensive and successful community engagement process for our two new buildings – the Art Gallery redevelopment and the Swan Hill Tourism and Cultural hub. From what had become quite a sensitive and controversial project, came two new projects – both driven and shaped by the community. Council is committed to continuing our significant efforts in this space!
I look forward to continuing the important work of Council, alongside my fellow councillors over the next 12 months – whilst also enjoying some more free time to spend with my family.
In the year ahead and beyond we have some major projects to complete for the benefit of our region – it remains an exciting time to be involved.
I extend my best wishes to the successful candidate at next week’s mayoral election, I trust that the community will be just as welcoming to our new Mayor.
