Swan Hill Rural City Council is aware that flash flooding occurring in Swan Hill overnight and into this morning has caused concern and inconvenience for many residents.
The intense and significant downpour in Swan Hill, classified as a one in fifty-year rainfall event, has overwhelmed our drainage systems and led to temporary inundation in certain areas.
We want to reassure residents that the Council drainage system and pumps did not malfunction during this challenging period, as some have reported.
Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to manage the situation and mitigate the impact of the flash flooding event.
Community safety remains our top priority – we are grateful for your patience and understanding during these exceptional circumstances.
We remind all residents to not drive though floodwater, this is not only a significant safety issue, it also creates additional pressure from the waves formed by vehicle movement, impacting on homes and properties.
Residents are reminded that if they need assistance from VICSES during a storm emergency, call 132 500.
If your emergency is life-threatening, call Triple Zero (000).
Once the initial response has concluded, Council will commence recovery efforts.
