BIG Summer Read continues to thrive in local libraries

Swan Hill Regional Library Service is proud to announce the finale to another successful BIG Summer Read program.

This year, all forty-nine public library services across Victoria participated, allowing children from all corners of Victoria to engage in reading during the Summer School Holiday period.

Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan said the program, open to all children and young people aged to 18, ran from Friday, 1 December 2023 to Wednesday, 31 January 2024.

“This year, our local libraries witnessed the participation of 195 children aged 5 to 17 years, collectively devouring an impressive 4,050 books.

“To celebrate their dedication and enthusiasm, Swan Hill Regional Library will host a prize draw on Friday, February 9, at 4pm, Ms Cullinan said.

“Our prize draw promises an array of exciting prizes generously sponsored by local businesses, organisations, and clubs.

“Prizes up for grabs include an Apple iPad, Apple Airpods, family passes to the Pioneer Settlement, gift cards, Lego sets, and more.

“Additionally, attendees who have completed and returned their BIG Summer Read reading logs will have the chance to win one of six lucky door prizes, each valued at $50.

“All prizes are with special thanks to BR&C Agents, Crop Rite, Elsteel and Roofing, Lions Club Swan Hill, McDonald’s, Murray Downs Golf & Country Club, Murray Mallee Training Company Ltd., One28Doors, Pioneer Settlement, Ray White & Associates, RSL Club, Subway, Swan Hill Betta Home Living, Swan Hill Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Swan Hill Windscreens Collision Repair Centre, Three Arms Bistro, and Toyworld – who are all invited to join in the celebrations,” Ms Cullinan said.

Ms Cullinan said each year the Big Summer Read is becoming more and more popular with children reaping the benefits of reading during the summer break.

“We’re thrilled to see the overwhelming response to the BIG Summer Read program.

“It’s a testament to the community’s commitment to nurturing a love for reading among our young people.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors for their continuous support in making this program a success,” Ms Cullinan added.
