Frequently asked questions

Most commercial accommodation facilities book out for these events every year. The Home Hosting program enables more visitors to come to Swan Hill Seniors Tennis Tournament and Swan Hill Country Week Tennis by securing private accommodation within town.

Home Hosting is when locals offer a room/s in their home or entire house to visitors for the duration of the Tennis Tournament. Locals might also have a granny flat, a unit or indeed their whole house that they can let out to visitors. Home Hosts are not expected to entertain or drive guests.

Home hosts provide a room/s and or house/unit and offer:

  • a safe, clean bed, bathroom facilities and home environment
  • linens including sheets, blankets/doonas and towels for guests
  • provisions for continental breakfast
  • property access details
  • You must not be a renter. You need to own your property
  • You must have insurance that covers public liability
  • You must complete the Home Host registration form
  • You must provide a safe, clean bed and home environment

We have a price guide on the application form for your reference. However, you can choose what to charge. No commission is payable. The Swan Hill Region Information Centre will take a $30 administration fee to list and advertise your accommodation.

There will be a minimum two nights stay, but they might stay for up to five if that is suitable, or two weeks if that is possible. Please nominate how many nights you are available on the Home Host Application Form, it will list out the dates for each Tennis Tournament.

We suggest that you decide what is an acceptable cut off point for cancellations and that you provide future guests with a written policy on potential charges resulting from cancellations. It is your responsibility to relay this clearly to your applicant. With COVID being a possible reason for cancelling please ensure you state clearly if and when you will refund in the case of lockdown/restrictions which are out of everyone’s control.

No, you do not have to be home to home host. You can rent out your whole house and go away for the week or you can let out a room/s in your house – you do not have to be home when the guest is there (that is your choice).

Two staff members from Swan Hill Rural City Council will be in contact to organise a mutually suitable time for a site visit. They will be able answer any of your questions during this time.

People will go to the Home Hosting page of the www.visitthemurray.com.au/places-to-go/west/swanhill website or contact the Swan Hill Region Information Centre. Interested people will then contact you directly as the Host to make a booking. You will nominate whether you prefer them to contact you via email or phone and you can choose to accept or refuse guests.

You will be responsible for organising payment with your guest. Payment should be made within four working days to secure the booking. The easiest way is to provide your account details for them to directly deposit into. Otherwise you might ask your applicant to send a cheque or money order. Once you have received payment, please contact the Swan Hill Region Information Centre to remove you from their listing.

You will be responsible for obtaining contact tracing records for all guests staying at your property plus anyone that may visit them whilst there. We recommend obtaining a minimum of name, contact number and a record of dates they were at the property.
