Silo art

Silo art

Lake Boga now boasts a new attraction with the unveiling of a striking silo art installation at the Graincorp site. This captivating  mural portrays the historic Catalina aircraft and renowned aviator George Urquhart "Scotty" Allan against the stunning backdrop of a Lake Boga sunset. The artwork not only captures the essence of the region's rich history and natural beauty but also showcases various recreational activities such as water skiing, sailing, and the presence of pelicans.

During World War Two, Lake Boga played a vital role as an air base for Australia's Catalina aircraft fleet, strategically located far from potential sea-launched bombing raids. Beyond commemorating this historical significance, the mural serves as a beacon to attract visitors to explore the region and the Catalina Flying Boat Museum.

The artist behind this masterpiece, Tim Bowtell, demonstrates his skill in utilising large-scale canvases like silos to narrate the stories of communities.

Funding for the project was provided by the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal (FRRR) in partnership with the Council. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to revitalising regional areas and preserving their cultural heritage through art. The project was completed in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in the cultural landscape of Lake Boga.
