Social and Economic Benefit

Council’s preference is to buy local to support their community. However this is not the only criteria when choosing a supplier. Social and economic benefit to the municipality does not mean that you have to be a local supplier. Outside suppliers can also contribute to the local municipality. The overall choice of a supplier is based on best value.

When making purchasing decisions Council ensures due consideration is given to how suppliers contribute to the social wellbeing of the local community. Suppliers can contribute to the local community in the following ways:

  • Volunteering
  • In-kind support
  • Sponsorships
  • Contributions
  • Use of subcontractors from the Swan Hill municipality
  • Staying overnight in the municipality
  • Buying products within the municipality
