Swan Hill Rural City Council is once again offering residents free green waste disposal at the Swan Hill and Robinvale landfills.
Disposal of green waste will be free of charge at the Swan Hill Landfill on Saturday, 25 October and Sunday, 26 October, and at Robinvale Landfill on Sunday, 26 October.
Council’s Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston, said the free green waste weekend is a simple way for residents to get their gardens in shape.
“Spring is the perfect time to give our backyards a refresh. By pruning trees, cutting back long grass and tidying up, we can enjoy our outdoor spaces and be better prepared for the fire season,” Ms Johnston said.
“It’s also a win for the environment – recycling green waste keeps it out of landfill, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and turns it into useful mulch that goes back into our community gardens,” she said.
Materials that would be accepted over the free green waste weekend include small tree prunings (up to 75mm in diameter), garden clippings, grass and leaf litter.
Green waste taken to the landfill is mulched and used as garden cover around the municipality and is also available for residents to self-load free of charge.
The Swan Hill Landfill will be open 9am-2pm on Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday.
Robinvale Landfill will be open 9am-3pm on Sunday.
Please note this free green waste weekend is for residents of the Swan Hill Rural City Council municipality only and residential volume limits will apply. Commercially generated green waste will incur normal gate fees.
