Swan Hill Rural City Council is excited to launch the Business Facade Improvement Program, a new initiative offering grants of up to $5,000 to eligible local businesses with a visible street frontage.

The program is designed to support small and medium businesses in refreshing and upgrading their shopfronts - helping strengthen the local economy while enhancing the attractiveness of our commercial and shopping precincts.

This is a 1:1 contribution program, with Council matching eligible works dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $5,000. Improvements can include repainting, new signage, exterior lighting, facade repairs, digital displays, awning upgrades, removal of outdated elements, and minor reinstatement works. Limited interior upgrades may also be supported if visible from the street.

Mayor Cr Stuart King said the program was an investment in both local businesses and the presentation of the region’s key retail areas.

“Vibrant, well-presented shopping precincts help create a strong first impression for visitors and an enjoyable environment for locals,” Cr King said.

“This program gives businesses the practical support they need to revitalise their shopfronts, boost street appeal and contribute to the liveability and economic strength of our communities.”

Director Development and Planning, Michelle Grainger, said the initiative also encouraged the use of local trades and suppliers.

“We want this program to support our businesses at every stage - the traders updating their facades and the local contractors carrying out the works,” Ms Grainger said.

“We encourage businesses to get in touch with Council’s Development and Planning team for a quick discussion before applying. A short conversation can help clarify eligibility, guide your proposal, and ensure you’re well-prepared to submit a strong application.”

Applications to the Business Facade Improvement Program can be made via www.smartygrants.com.au, from Monday, 8 December 2025 through until Friday, 27 February 2026.
