Swan Hill Rural City Council is preparing to introduce a Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) waste service in 2027, helping reduce landfill, lower emissions and create valuable compost from food and garden waste.

FOGO Waste Service Arriving in 2027
Swan Hill Rural City Council is introducing a Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) waste service in 2027.
FOGO will make it easier for households to recycle food scraps and garden waste instead of sending them to landfill. The service will help:
- Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill
- Lower greenhouse gas emissions
- Turn food and garden waste into valuable compost
- Support a cleaner, more sustainable future for our community
Many councils across Victoria have already successfully adopted FOGO, with positive environmental and community outcomes. Swan Hill Rural City Council is looking forward to bringing the service to our municipality.
