Swan Hill Rural City Council received more than 470 submissions as part of a Strategic Review into the Swan Hill Regional Livestock Exchange, which closed on 23 April 2025.

Council is now inviting those who made a submission to present their views directly to Councillors at a special public briefing session next month.

The briefing will be held on Tuesday, 2 September 2025 at 7pm at the Swan Hill Town Hall PACC.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Stuart King, said each speaker will have three minutes to share their views on the strategic review, based on their submission, or to suggest ideas for improving the facility. All feedback will be considered by Council at a future meeting before a decision is made.

“This session will follow the same process Council uses for other matters, such as planning permits, where submitters that have raised an objection will be invited to speak at a Council meeting. The same principle applies here, with the important distinction that this consultation has involved a much larger scale of engagement with the community and stakeholders,” Cr King explained.

Cr King noted that while the public is welcome to attend, speaking opportunities are by appointment only and limited to those who lodged a submission.

“As with other Council submission hearings, the Chair will have the discretion to decide how much time each speaker is given and may shorten times if the topic has already been addressed.

“This briefing offers a valuable opportunity for Councillors to hear directly from the community before making any decisions. We’ve been encouraged by the high level of engagement throughout this review, and this session will allow contributors to voice their views in person and help shape the future of the facility,” he said.

Attendance at the briefing is optional, and Council assures residents that every submission will be thoroughly considered.

Submitters wishing to have questions addressed at the briefing session must provide them to Council by Monday, 25 August 2025, to allow time for informed responses to be prepared.
