Apply for an asset protection permit

Council has a responsibility to protect public infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, kerbs and drainage assets.

If building works involve vehicles or machinery accessing private land from a Council road, an Asset Protection Permit is required. This ensures appropriate measures are in place to prevent damage to Council assets.

Where damage occurs, the person responsible for the works (owner, builder or appointed agent) must arrange repairs or cover the cost of restoration.

How to apply

Online

Step 1.Understand your responsibilities

Before applying, review Council’s requirements to protect infrastructure during building works.

Any works must ensure that roads, footpaths, kerbs and drainage assets are not damaged.

Step 2.Check if you need a permit

You will need a permit if your building works involve:

  • Vehicles or machinery crossing a Council asset (e.g. footpath or kerb)
  • Delivery of materials to the site via Council land
  • Works that may impact nearby infrastructure

Step 3.Allow enough time

Assessment timeframes may vary. Submitting a complete application will help avoid delays.

What happens next?

Once your application is received, Council will:

  • Review the application and associated risks to infrastructure
  • Record the condition of nearby assets (if required)
  • Issue a permit with conditions to follow during works

After works are completed:

  • Council officers may inspect the site
  • Any damage to infrastructure will be identified
  • You will be advised of required repairs or associated costs
