Aboriginal culture and heritage

Welcome to the Swan Hill Rural City Council.

‘Puthekaty’ means ‘welcome’ in the Wamba Wamba language.

Swan Hill Rural City Council acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land in which we live, and pays its respects to their elders, past and present.

The Barapa Barapa, Latji Latji, Tati Tati, Wadi Wadi and Wamba Wamba peoples are the original custodians of the lands within the Swan Hill Rural City Municipality; our region is rich and diverse in its First Nations culture and history.

Council is committed to working respectfully and collaboratively with all First Nations people to build strong relationships and to achieve positive, inclusive and meaningful outcomes for the benefit of the whole community.
