New Owners of a Property with a Pool or Spa

Follow the steps below to determine whether the pool or spa is registered and what action, if any, is required.

When ownership changes, responsibility for maintaining pool or spa barrier compliance transfers to the new owner. The new owner is responsible for ensuring future inspection and certification requirements are met.

Step 1.Check if your pool or spa is registered

All swimming pools and spas capable of holding more than 300 mm of water are required to be registered with Council.

If you are unsure whether the pool or spa is registered, you can request a copy of the registration letter. The letter will confirm:

the recorded date of construction
the applicable barrier standard the
next Certificate of Barrier Compliance due date

Request a copy of the Pool/Spa registration letter

Step 2.If the pool or spa is not registered

You will need to register the pool or spa with Council.

Step 3.If the pool or spa is already registered

You should submit a change of ownership request so Council can update its records, issue future compliance notices to the correct owner and provide details of your next Certificate of Barrier Compliance due date.
